Arsenal the 'dirtiest team in Premier League history'.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has hit back at Arsene Wenger's criticism of his team's style of play.

Wenger yesterday criticized the direct, forceful style employed by teams like Stoke and Blackburn, likening it to rugby.

But Allardyce was quick to remind the Arsenal boss that in his early years at Highbury, he produced the dirtiest team in Premier League history.

'They had more sendings-off and bookings than anyone else', said Alladyce.

'Players like Vieira, Petit, Campbell and Keown would mix it anyway you wanted to mix it.'

'The current Arsenal team may be pleasing to watch. But they are still not as good as that team he used to have.'
