  • Address: Ashton Road, Bristol, BS3 2EJ
  • Year Opened: 1904

Ashton Gate was originally the home of Bedminster F.C. until they merged with Bristol South End in 1900 to form Bristol City.

The new club alternated games between Ashton Gate and St Johns Lane, (the former home of Bristol South End) until 1904 when Ashton Gate was adopted as their permanent home. Bristol City have played there ever since.

The current stadium is 21, 497 capacity all-seater, and features 4 main stands, the Wedlock Stand, Williams Stand, Dolman Stand and Atyeo Stand.

The Wedlock Stand is at at the south-east end of the ground, and accomodates away fans. Known as the East End to City fans, it was built in 1928, and converted to seating in the 1990s.

The Williams Stand on the south-west side, was built in 1958 and includes the directors' box and press box.

The largest stand, Dolman Stand, which lies opposite it, was built in 1970.

The most recent addition to the stadium is the Atyeo Stand, which was built in 1994. It contains new dressing rooms and a gymnasium. It is named after Bristol City legend John Atyeo who played 645 games for City and scored 351 goals. He died in 1993, a year before the new stand opened.

In November 2007, it was announced that Bristol City are planning to move to a new stadium not far from 'The Gate'.
