FA Cup Final - May 1979

Arsenal looked to be heading for a routine victory after goals from Brian Talbot and Frank Stapleton put them two up.

Then on 86 minutes, the game suddenly came to life when Gordon McQueen got United back in it. Two minutes later, and the Reds had an equalizer through Sammy McIlroy.

Their celebrations were short-lived - straight from the kick-off Brady played in Rix, who lofted a cross over the head of United keeper Bailey, giving Alan Sunderland the easiest of tap-ins to win it for the Gunners.

First Division - October 1990

The game was settled by an Anders Limpar goal but is best remembered as the "Battle of Old Trafford".

A late tackle, by Nigel Winterburn on Dennis Irwin, sparked a mass brawl involving every player on the pitch, bar Arsenal keeper David Seaman.

In the aftermath Arsenal were deducted two points and United one. The Gunners still won the league at a canter.

League Cup 4th Round - November 1990

A month after the Old Trafford brawl another feisty encounter was expected when these two met in the League Cup.

Fortunately, this game will be remembered for the right reasons, at least if you're a United fan.

A hat-trick from Lee Sharpe set United on the way to an absolute drubbing, but there was no further trouble between the players.

FA Cup Semi-final Replay - April 1999

A thrilling game settled by, arguably, the greatest goal in FA Cup history.

David Beckham gave United the lead after 17 minutes but Dennis Bergkamp equalised after 51. Nicolas Anelka had a goal disallowed for Arsenal before United had Roy Keane sent off.

But there was even more drama as the Gunners were awarded a 90th minute penalty - up stepped Bergkamp, only to be denied by Peter Schmeichel.

Into extra time, and with 19 minutes gone, Giggs picked up the ball near the halfway line, dribbled past four defenders, and fired home to win it.

Premier League - May 2002

Arsenal were en route to the double, United needed a win to deny them but also to maintain their faint hopes of winning a fourth consecutive title.

The Gunners arrived at Old Trafford for their last away game of the season missing Thierry Henry, but it was his stand-in Sylvan Wiltord who won it with a 57th minute strike.

Credit also to the Arsenal defense who stood firm against sustained United pressure.

Premier League - September 2003

Another game remembered more for the fighting than the football.

The match itself was a turgid affair which sprung to life late on. First Viera was sent off for taking a swing at van Nistlerooy, and then United were awarded a 90th minute penalty.

The Dutchman stepped up to take the kick himself, and missed, sparking amazing scenes at the final whistle.

As the teams left the pitch, Martin Keown began taunting van Nistlerooy. Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo confronted Keown, and Arsenal's Ray Parlour, Ashley Cole, Jens Lehmann, and Lauren joined the melee that followed.

All were later disciplined by the FA.

Premier League - October, 2004

A year after the infamous Old Trafford brawl came the post match food fight known as 'Pizzagate'.

In a tense, spiteful match, United won 2-0 courtesy of a late Wayne Rooney strike, and the obligatory, controversial, Van Nistelrooy penalty. In the process they ended Arsenal's 49-match unbeaten run.

But the fun really kicked off in the tunnel after the final whistle. Neither club would comment, but suffice to say that Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford covered in pizza, soup and various other food items.

Premier League - Feb, 2005

United and Arsenal were battling Chelsea for the Premier League title, and the Reds showed their character in this one, twice coming from behind to win it.

Veira gave the Gunners an 8th minute lead which Giggs cancelled out ten minutes later.

Bergkamp restored the home side's advantage before half time, before second half strikes from Ronaldo (2) and O'Shea decided a pulsating, if bad-tempered, match.

Premier League - Nov, 2007

A thrilling game in which United twice had the lead, first through a Gallas own goal, and then a well-worked Christiano Ronaldo effort on 82 minutes.

Fabregas had equalized the first United goal, and it was left to Gallas to atone for his earlier lapse when his late, late strike gave the Gunners a share of the points at the Emirates.

Champions League Semi-Final 2nd leg - May, 2009

United came into the 2nd leg holding a slender 1-0 advantage, but soon took control of this match at the Emirates.

Goals from Park and Ronaldo had them two up within 11 minutes, before a second from Ronaldo killed the Gunners off on 62 minutes.

A late van Persie penalty was a mere consolation as United advanced to the final - where they were convincingly beaten by Barcelona.
