The North London derby is one of the most fiercely contested in English Football.
Here are our 10 best Arsenal Tottenham games.

Tottenham 0-1 Arsenal
Football League Division 1 - May, 1971

Arsenal needed a win or a goalless draw in their last match, to win their first league title in 18 years - a loss or score draw would have handed the title to Leeds.

In a tense Monday night game the scores were locked at 0-0 going into the 88th minute, when a George Armstrong cross was headed home by Kennedy to win it for the Gunners.

Five days later, Bertie Mee's side beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final to complete the Double - matching Spurs achievement of 1961.


Tottenham 5-0 Arsenal
Football League Division 1 - April, 1983

In December 1978, Arsenal had hammered Spurs 5-0, in 1983 Spurs returned the favour.

Chris Hughton opened the scoring and Alan Brazil added a second as Tottenham raced into a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes.

The rout was completed by two cracking Mark Falco goals as Spurs gained the sweetest revenge.

League Cup Semi-final replay - March, 1987

Spurs had won the first leg at Highbury 1-0, Arsenal the second, 2-1 at the Lane, so a third game was needed and a coin-toss gave Tottenham home advantage.

Tottenham were a goal up when an injury to Charlie Nicholas forced George Graham into a game-changing substitution, sending on Ian Allinson.

With eight minutes remaining Allinson produced the equalizing goal, and then provided the assist for David Rocastle to send Arsenal into the final, where they beat Liverpool.

Football League Division 1 - September, 1988

An extraordinary game in which all five goals came in the space of 12 first-half minutes.

Arsenal left-back Winterburn's opener was quickly cancelled out by Waddle, but Spurs were then rocked by quick-fire strikes from Brian Marwood and Alan Smith.

Enter Paul Gascoigne, dribbling into the box, losing his boot in the process, but scoring anyway.

It was Gazza's first Tottenham goal and though Spurs couldn't find the equalizer, it capped a remarkable North London derby.


Tottenham 3-1 Arsenal
FA Cup semi-final - April, 1991

Wembley was being used as a semi-final venue for the first time, and the occasion was illuminated by the mercurial Spurs midfielder Paul Gascoigne.

With only only five minutes gone, Gazza crashed a 30-yard free kick into David Seaman's top corner, and Spurs never looked back as Gary Lineker netted a brace to set up a date with Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest.

In a cracking, free-flowing derby, only excellent performances from keepers, Ian Walker and David Seaman, kept the score respectable.

The star strikers for either side, Arsenal's Ian Wright and Tottenham's Jurgen Klinsmann scored one a piece, as honours were shared.

Premier League - April, 2004

In Arsenal's 'Invincibles' season they came to White Hart Lane needing only a draw to secure the title.

And the Gunners looked to be on their way to a rout, going 2-0 up, through Vieira and Pires, after only three minutes.

But a Jamie Redknapp goal sparked a fight-back, and when Robbie Keane scored a penalty to level things late on, Spurs looked the more likely to nick it. Arsenal held out for the point they needed to cap a remarkable season.


Tottenham 4-5 Arsenal
Premier League - November, 2004

The highest scoring North London derby on record was the classic "game of two halves".

Spurs dominated the first-half, with Naybet opening the scoring. But a Thierry Henry strike in stoppage time provided the inspiration for an improved Arsenal performance in the second period.

Lauren put the Gunners in front with a penalty before goals from Veira (Arsenal), Defoe(Spurs), Ljungberg (Arsenal) and finally, King for Tottenham, made the score 4-3.

Robert Pires restored Arsenal's two-goal advantage, and there was even time for a late Spurs strike from Freddie Kanoute to keep this one simmering until the final whistle.


Tottenham 5-1 Arsenal
League Cup Semi-final, January, 2008

Spurs had not beaten Arsenal in 21 attempts going into this League Cup semi, but they ended that run in emphatic style.

A five-star performance saw Jermaine Jenas give them an early lead lead before an own-goal from Bentner, and strikes from Robbie Keane and Aaron Lennon, put Tottenham 4-0 up.

Emmanuel Adebayor got Arsenal's consolation before Steed Malbranque restored the four-goal cushion.


Arsenal 4-4 Tottenham Hotspur
Premier League - October, 2008

This eight-goal feast had the best possible opening as David Bentley's outrageous volley put Spurs in front.

Back came Arsenal, powering into a 3-1 lead, with two of their goals gifted by some comical goalkeeping by Heurelho Gomes.

Not to be outdone Almunia gifted Darren Bent a goal to reduce the deficit, before van Persie restored Arsenal's two-goal advantage just minutes later.

It wasn't done yet, on 90 minutes Jenas scored what looked to be a consolation goal for Tottenham. Then in the 5th minute of stoppage time Lennon prodded in the equalizer, after Luka Modric's strike had come back off the post.
