Bobby Smith R.I.P

Bobby Smith, Tottenham Hotspur legend, and a prolific striker during their glory years, has died at the age of 77, following a short illness.

Smith joined Spurs from Chelsea in 1955, and over the next decade, scored 208 goals in 317 appearances.

He was the club's top scorer during the Double-winning season of 1960/61 and was on target in both the 1961 and 1962 FA Cup finals.

An England international, he racked up an impressive 13 goals in 15 international appearances.

A statement from the club read: 'It is with great regret that we announce the death of Bobby Smith, our legendary centre-forward from our great Double-winning side of 1960-61.

'Bobby died at an Enfield hospital yesterday evening following a short illness. He was 77.

'We extend our sincere condolences to the family of Bobby Smith at this very sad time.'
