![]() RootsBurton Albion FC was founded in 1950 but can trace its history to a number of failed football clubs in the town including Burton Swifts, Burton Town, Burton United and Burton Wanderers. The club (nicknamed "the Brewers", after Burton's main industry) joined the Birmingham and District League and played its home games at Lloyds Foundry. In 1958, they won promotion to the Southern League and moved to the new Eton Park stadium where they played until the stadium's demolition in 2005. Move to the Pirelli StadiumBurton then moved to the Pirelli Stadium located directly opposite Eton Park. The club were by this time playing in the Conference after winning the Northern Premier League in 2002 In 2007-08 they reached the Conference play-offs but lost to Cambridge United. Promotion to the LeagueA year later however, they stormed into a 19-point lead in the Conference, only to see that lead gradually eroded following the departure of manager Nigel Clough for Derby County. Despite the slump in form Burton managed to hold on and gain promotion to the Football League as Champions. Click on the icons below for more on Burton Albion;
