The original Craven Cottage was built by Baron Craven in 1780, and was situated approximately where the centre circle is today.
When it burnt down in 1888, the site, which was surrounded by woodland, lay in ruins until representatives of the club discovered it in 1894 and struck a deal with the owners for construction of a football ground.
The first match was played at the ground in 1896 and, save for a brief groundshare with QPR, it has been home to Fulham F.C. ever since.
The current stadium is 26,600 all-seater.
It features four main stands, the Hammersmith End, Putney End, Riverside Stand and Johnny Haynes Stand (originally called the Stevenage Road Stand, but renamed for Fulham's greatest ever player after his untimely death in a car accident).T
The ground also features the Cottage Pavilion, a Grade II listed building which dates back to 1905.
The Cottage was built because architect Archibald Leitch, forgot to accommodate changing rooms in his final plans.
