Crawley Town FC![]() ![]() Crawley Town FC were founded in 1896, playing out their first five seasons in West Sussex League before joining the Mid-Sussex League. After winning promotion in their first season, they remained in Sussex County League until 1951 before transferring to the Metropolitan League. The club became semi-professional in 1962 and the following year joined the Southern League In 1969 they won promotion to the Southern League Premier Division, but were relegated the following season. Crawley remained at that level until 1983-84 when they were promoted as runners-up. They remained in the division until 2004 when they won promotion to the Conference as Southern League champions. In 2005, Crawley Town FC was bought by the SA Group and turned professional. However, this triggered a period of indifferent form and with it a drop in attendances. They club was placed into administration and was within an hour of going out of business before a last-minute rescue package secured its future. The next few seasons, Crawley Town struggled to maintain its position in the league. This was not helped by a series of points deductions levied due to the club’s precarious financial position. In April 2008 Prospect Estate Holdings Limited bought the club. Financial stability saw an improvement in fortunes on the field, and in season 2009-2010 they finished 7th, their highest ever league position. It would get even better the following season as Crawley Town FC stormed to the Conference title, to win promotion to the Football League.
