Crystal Palace FC was founded in 1905 by workers at the Crystal Palace exhibition centre.

They joined the Southern League and became founder members of Division Three South in 1921, winning the title at the first attempt.

After promotion to Division Two, they endured four difficult years before they were relegated back to Division Three (South) in 1925. They were to remain there for the next 33 years.

In 1958 Palace were placed in the new Fourth Division, and in 1961 won promotion to the Third Division. Two years later they won promotion again - to Division Two.

In 1969, Palace reached Division One for the first time. They survived for four years before they were relegated, and by 1974 they were in the Third Division.

Malcolm Allison was appointed manager in 1973, but after narrowly missing promotion three times he quit, and Terry Venables took over.

By 1979 Venables had taken Palace back to Division One, but the club failed to consolidate in the top division. After only two years, they were relegated, and Venables left the club.

Steve Coppell became manager in 1984, and in 1989 Palace returned to the First Division. The following year they reached the FA Cup final for the first time. A year later, Palace finished third behind Arsenal and Liverpool.

In 1993, however, the club was relegated and Coppell resigned.

In 1994, they were promoted as champions, and despite reaching the semi-finals of both domestic cups, they were relegated again in 1994/95.

Promotion in 1997, was inevitably followed by relegation a year later, and despite the money invested in the club by life-long fan Simon Jordan, it was the same story in 2003/04, 2004/05 - promotion, followed by a swift return to the Championship.

2007/08 saw the club reach the play-offs where they were eliminated by Bristol City.
