Roots

The history of Dagenham and Redbridge FC is a complicated one, involving several mergers.

Redbridge came about as the result of a 1979 merger between Ilford (founded 1881) and Leytonstone (founded 1886), to form Leytonstone/Ilford. In 1988, they absorbed Walthamstow Avenue to become Redbridge Forest.

Dagenham were founded in 1949 and competed in the Isthmian League until 1981 when they were promoted to the Football Alliance. In 1988 they were relegated back to the Isthmian League.

Merger

In 1992, these two clubs merged to form Dagenham & Redbridge. They competed in the Alliance until 1996 when they were relegated to the Isthmian League.

They were Isthmian League champions in 2000, and joined the Conference for the 2000/2001 season.

In 2002, they narrowly lost the Conference title to Boston United.

Conference Champions

They went close again in 2003, qualifying for the playoffs, before winning the Conference title and promotion to Division Two, in 2006-07.

Promoted to League One

And in 2010, the Daggers won promotion again, this time via a play-off victory over Rotherham, to reach League One for the first time in their history.
