Hart and Brown in the frame for Southampton job

Former Portsmouth boss Paul Hart and former Hull manager Phil Brown are the early favourites for the Southampton job, following the surprise sacking of Alan Pardew.

Saints Chairman Nicola Cortese will face the wrath of the fans if he appoints Hart, given his Pompey connections. Fans sang anti-Hart songs during Tuesday's Johnson's Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon Town.

Brown meanwhile, has confirmed his interest in the job, saying "Southampton would be a fantastic opportunity for someone who has the ambition to get back to the Premiership, so of course I would be interested."
