Hicks vows to hold on to Liverpool
by The Rumor Monger
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks will continue his to battle to hold onto power at Liverpool after refusing to acknowledge that chairman Martin Broughton had the authority to sell the club. Broughton, appointed in April to find a buyer, revealed that Hicks tried to sack directors Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre and appoint his son Matt, and Lori McCuthcheon in an attempt to prevent the £300million sale to New England Sports Venues (NESV). Broughton blocked that move, insisting Hicks has signed an agreement not to oppose the sale, but Hicks' New York-based spokesman, Mark Semer, disputes the claim. Speaking to Bloomberg News, Semer said: "There were no such undertakings given to Broughton, the board has been legally reconstituted, and the new board does not approve of this proposed transaction." The issue goes to the High Court next week. |
