Liverpool Fight: It ain't over yet
by The Rumour Monger
Liverpool's board and prospective new owners NESV had hardly finished celebrating their High Court victory allowing the sale of the club, when they were pitched into a new legal battle - with co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett lodging a £1billion claim. NESV's front-man John W Henry's arrival in London, to attend a meeting of the Liverpool board, coincided with an announcement by Hicks and Gillett that a Texas State District Court had granted a temporary restraining order preventing the sale from going ahead. They also revealed their intention to sue three Liverpool board members, Martin Broughton, Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre, along with RBS and NESV, for a total of £1billion in damages. The duo called the attempt to sell the club an ‘epic swindle’ and a ‘grand conspiracy’ and claimed the offer was ‘hundreds of millions of dollars below true market value’. Liverpool, last night, released a statement claiming the restraining order has no jurisdiction. However, the issue will have to be resolved, with a hearing set for October 25. |
