Liverpool Held to Ransom by Mascerano

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has vented his anger at Barcelona-bound Javier Mascherano, claiming the midfielder forced him into selling, by effectively going on strike.

After reluctantly agreeing to sell the Argentine captain to Barca for a fee in the region of £20million, Hodgson accused him of holding Liverpool to ransom by refusing to play against Manchester City on Monday night.

'It's not easy to defend his actions, because professionals are paid to play and, when called on to do so, they should', said Hodgson.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on the capture of full-back Paul Konchesky from Fulham.
