Liverpool must leave Anfield, say Hodgson

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes that the club need to move to a new stadium if they are to compete with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea as well as Manchester City.

Hodgson said: ‘I hope (chairman) Martin Broughton finds an owner who first and foremost backs the club’s desire to build a new stadium, which would be tremendous for our long-term future.

‘If we want to be up there with other big clubs, we need to have a capacity to rival theirs.’

Liverpool currently generate about £42m from matchday revenue, £30m less than Chelsea, who have a similar stadium capacity, but more corporate boxes.

Manchester United and Arsenal earn double Liverpool’s income from home games.
