![]() Morecambe FC was founded in May 1920, after a meeting at the West View Hotel. The new club joined the Lancashire Combination League and for the 1920/21 season shared a ground with the local cricket club. Move to Christie ParkThe following season they moved to Roseberry Park and a few years later, after the ground was acquired by club president JB Christie, the name was changed to Christie Park. Initial results in the Combination were poor and, although they won the title in 1925, dwindling home attendances meant the club was in a constant battle to survive. FA Trophy WinnersThings gradually started to improve in the post-war years. The "Shrimps" made it as far as the FA Cup third round in 1960 and, in 1974, they won the FA Trophy at Wembley. The club gained a place in the Northern Premier League in 1968, and, in 1995, won promotion to the Alliance Premier League, the forerunner of the Conference. Promotion to the Football LeagueIn 2006-07, they finished third in the Conference to qualify for the play-offs and, in May 2007, secured promotion to the Football League via a 2-1 victory over Exeter City.
