'The Moor' has been home to Torquay United since 1910 when they merged with Ellacombe to become Torquay Town (a subsequent merger with Babbacombe in 1921 saw the club's name revert to Torquay United).

In 1927 a new wooden grandstand was erected to celebrate United's election to the Football League Division Three South, but the ground changed little over the next 60 years.

In May 1985, part of the grandstand was destroyed by fire and, as a result, the ground's capacity was reduced to under 5,000.

There were major changes during the late eighties and throughout the nineties, with the construction of the all-seater Family Stand. This stand also houses offices, the boardroom and the club shop.

At the Ellacombe end of the ground the 'Cowshed' was replaced by the old mini-stand, and the Sparkworld Stand was opened in time for the 200/2001 season.
