Premier League 60-second Wrap Up
by The Rumor Monger
Manchester United came up short on their travels once again as they were held to a fourth successive away draw in the Premier League. United played out a 0-0 draw at Sunderland, in which the Black Cats were arguably the better team - with both Steed Malbranque and Bolo Zenden going close. Rafael van der Vaart was at the centre of things again for Tottenham as the midfielder scored both goals in a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa. At £8million the Dutchman is already looking the buy of the season. Everton finally got their first win of the campaign, to end Birmingham's 18-game unbeaten home run. A Roger Johnson own goal, and a late strike by Tim Cahill, sealed it for the Toffees. The win lifted Everton out of the drop zone where they were replaced by Wolves, 2-0 losers at Wigan. Jordi Gomez and Hugo Rodallega secured a first home win of the season for the Latics. In the 'battle of the bruisers', a Jon Walters strike gave Stoke a 1-0 victory over Blackburn, while at Upton Park, Clint Dempsey returned to haunt England keeper Rob Green. The US international was on target for Fulham in their 1-1 draw with West Ham. The draw was Fulham's sixth in seven matches, while the Hammers remain rooted to the foot of the table despite being unbeaten in their last three. West Brom and Bolton had to settle for a point a piece as they drew 1-1 at The Hawthorns, James Morrison equalizing for the Baggies after Johan Elmander had given the visitors the lead. |
