West Ham earned their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw at Stoke, despite the absence of manager Avram Grant, who was not in the dugout due to Yom Kippur Arsenal thought they'd done enough to secure top spot, but a late, late goal from Darren Bent denied them. In an eventful match the Gunners had Alex Song sent off, while Tomas Rosicky missed a penalty and Cesc Fabregas left the field with a hamstring injury. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could be in trouble after appearing to push the 4th official. Rafael van der Vaart scored his first Premier League goal as Tottenham came from behind to beat Wolves 3-1 at White Hart Lane. Everton's poor start to the season continued as Hatem Ben Arfa marked his full Newcastle United debut with the only goal at Goodison Park. Aston Villa's final game under the stewardship of caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald ended in a stalemate against Bolton. With new manager Gerard Houllier watching from the stands, Villa took the lead on 13 minutes, before Bolton equalized 10 minutes before half-time. 1-1 Fulham picked up a point on Mark Hughes' return to Ewood Park as they came from behind to draw 1-1 at Blackburn. In the Midlands derby, West Brom earned the bragging rights after turning round a half-time deficit to beat Birmingham 3-1 at The Hawthorns. |
