Premier League 60-second Wrap-up
by The Rumor Monger
At the City of Manchester Stadium Chelsea tamely surrendered their 100 per cent record as a Carlos Tevez goal on 59 minutes sent them crashing to their first defeat of the season. The champions were denied what looked a clear penalty, and hit a post, but generally looked out of sorts against a determined City. With Chelsea losing, you'd have expected Arsenal to close the gap at the top. West Brom though, clearly hadn't read the script and recorded a thrilling 3-2 win at the Emirates. The Baggies led 3-0 on 73 minutes, before a late brace by Nasri added some respectability to the scoreline for Arsenal. At the other end of the table, West Ham recorded their first win of the season after Frederic Piquionne scored the only goal of the game at Upton Park. The win lifted the Hammers off the foot of the table, to be replaced by Everton after a 0-0 bore draw at Craven Cottage. Fulham have now drawn five of their opening six games. Liverpool had a controversial Dirk Kuyt goal to thank for their home draw with Sunderland. Black Cats boss Steve Bruce was furious as Fernando Torres seized on the ball while Sunderland were trying to reposition it for a free-kick. Torres passed to Kuyt, who scored. It finished 2-2 at Anfield, and Bruce later accused Torres of 'unsportsmanlike behaviour'. Elsewhere, Blackburn snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over Blackpool courtesy of Brett Emerton's injury-time winner, while Birmingham were held 0-0 at home by Wigan.
