Premier League Debuts10 Stunning Premier League debuts that had us all talking.
Jurgen Klinsmann Spurs signed the German superstar in 1994 and he marked his Premier League debut with a brace as Tottenham beat Wednesday 4-3. He got 21 league goals that season, and was also named Footballer of the Year.
Tino Asprilla The Colombian international made his Newcastle debut against Middlesbrough, coming on a substitute with his team trailing 1-0. In an impressive debut Asprilla's mesmerizing skills totally bamboozled the Boro defense and helped the Magpies to a 2-1 win.
Fabrizio Ravanelli The silver-haired Italian, nicknamed 'The 'White Feather', was an instant hit at The Riverside after scoring an impressive hat-trick against Liverpool on his debut. Unfortunately, despite netting 17 times that season, he was unable to save Boro from the drop.
Michael Owen A product of Liverpool's youth system, Owen made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at Wimbledon, coming on as a substitute for Patrik Berger. The young striker was on target for Liverpool's consolation, bursting through the Dons defense and calmly placing the ball beyond Neil Sullivan.
Alan Smith What better way to kick off your Premier League career than to score with your first touch. And that is exactly what Alan Smith did on his debut. Coming on as a substitute for Clyde Wijnhard, the youngster received a pass from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and finished with aplomb as Leeds came from a goal down to beat Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield.
Mario Stanic Stanic may not have been the highest-profile player the Blues ever signed but he kicked off his Stamford Bridge career in style. On his Premier League debut, the Croatian received a pass some 35 yards out, juggled the ball twice, and unleashed a fierce volley which left Shaka Hislop flat-footed. Stanic scored twice in a 4-2 win, but his career at Chelsea seldom reached those heights again.
Ruud van Nistelrooy van Nistelrooy's move to United was delayed by a knee injury, but once the Dutchman eventually arrived it looked like he was making up for lost time. After a scoring debut in the 2001 Charity Shield against Liverpool, he got two in a thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham. He went on to score 36 goals in his debut season.
Cristiano Ronaldo Having been signed from Sporting Lisbon that summer, the Portuguese teenager became an instant fans' favourite after this impressive debut. Coming on with United 1-0 up against Bolton, Ronaldo lit up Old Trafford with his skill, pace and vision. United won 4-0. The rest, as they say, is history.
Wayne Rooney Rooney made his United debut in the Champions League rather than the Premier League but is worth mentioning because of the impact he has had as a Premier League player with United. Signing for a record-breaking fee of 30 million pounds is bound to put pressure on a player. Not so the 18-year-old Rooney who made his United debut in a Champions League game with Fenerbache and bagged himself at hat-trick.
James Vaughan The Everton youngster made his debut, as a sub, against Crystal Palace - replacing Gary Naysmith. The Toffees were already 3-0 up when the 16-year-old struck from close-range to set a new record as the Premier League's youngest scorer.
