Premier League Preview, Saturday 25 September
by The Rumor Monger
Premier League preview, Saturday 25 September Man City v Chelsea The big one today is at Eastlands, where Man City entertain champions Chelsea. The Blues have got off to an absolute flyer, but many will see this as their first real test. City did the double over Chelsea last term, but expect Carlo Ancelotti's men to at least get a draw today. Liverpool v Sunderland Roy Hodgson's misfiring Reds will be hoping to bounce back from their midweek humiliation by Northampton Town. But they'll need to be wary of a battling Sunderland side who took a point off Arsenal last Saturday. The Reds will hope that Fernando Torres finds some form soon, while the Black Cats will rely again on the prolific Darren Bent. Arsenal v West Brom At the Emirates, Arsenal welcome a West Brom team who have had a decent start to the season despite their 6-0 opening day drubbing by Chelsea. Arsene Wenger will be keeping a keen eye on the early kick off between Chelsea and City, and should the Blues drop points, he'll be looking to close the gap at the top. The Baggies though, are no mugs, and knocked Man City out of the Carling Cup on Wednesday. West Ham v Spurs Harry Redknapp take his stuttering Tottenham Hotspur side to Upton Park for what is bound to be a feisty London derby. Spurs will still be reeling from their painful 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Carling Cup, but will see this as an ideal opportunity to bounce back. The Hammers have been woeful this season, and have just one point from a possible 15. Everton v Fulham Everton are another side in poor form and have yet to win in the Premier League this season. Their battling performance against Man United must seem light years away after they crashed out of the Carling Cup against Brentford. Today they face draw specialists Fulham, and will be hoping to at least nick a point at Craven Cottage - especially with Fulham strikers Bobby Zamora and Moussa Dembele out through injury. Blackpool v Blackburn Blackpool play only their second home game of the season today when they take on Blackburn Rovers. The Seasiders have impressed many with their style of play and, despite their 4-0 hammering at Chelsea last week, will be looking for further progress against Sam Allardyce's men, who haven't won since the opening day of the campaign. Birmimgham v Wigan Birmingham City host Wigan Athletic at St Andrews hoping to bounce back from last week's derby defeat to West Brom. They may find the Latics in an accommodating mood - they have the worst defensive record in the division. Playing Sunday Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United Wolves v Aston Villa Newcastle United v Stoke City |
