Queens Park Rangers FC trace their origins back to 1882, when a group of former Droop Street School pupils formed St Jude's FC.

They played under that name until 1886 when a merger with Christchurch Rangers resulted in the formation of the current club.

In 1892 QPR entered the West London League. They won the London Cup 1894-95, and entered the FA Cup for the first time that same year.

Southern League Champions

In December 1898, the club turned professional, and the following season joined the Southern League.

They won the Southern League title in 1908 and, expecting to be accepted into the Football League Division Two, they resigned.

When their application was declined, they had to apply to re-join the Southern League.

Move to Loftus Road

They moved to Loftus Road in 1919, and the following season finally joined the Football League when Southern League Division One was incorporated as Division Three.

Their early years in the league, though, were far from successful, and they had to apply for re-election in 1924 and in 1926.

In 1931 Rangers moved to the White City but the move was a financial disaster. They returned to Loftus Road the following year, and it has remained their home ever since.

Promotion and Relegation

Rangers finally achieved promotion in 1948 when they were Division Three (South) champions. They held on to their Division Two status for four years, before being relegated in 1952.

League Cup Winners

The 1966-67 QPR were Third Division champions and also won the League Cup against West Bromwich Albion. In a thrilling final, Rangers trailed 0-2 at half time, but fought back to win it 3-2.

In 1968 they were promoted to Division One but were relegated at the end of the season.

Division One Runners Up

In 1973 they were promoted again and three years later finished as Division One runners-up to qualify for Europe for the first time. However, in 1979 they were relegated again.

Plastic Pitch

In 1981 QPR became the first English club to install an artificial playing surface.

They reached the FA Cup final in 1982 and won the Second Division in 1983, but the plastic pitch proved deeply unpopular with top flight sides and in 1988 it was replaced with turf.

Administration and Relegation

Rangers were relegated from the Premier League in 1996, and that same year Chris Wright acquired a controlling interest in the club.

However, in 2001, Queens Park Rangers FC was forced to enter administration and was relegated to Division Two (the old Third Division).

They spent three years at that level before returning to Division One (now The Championship) in 2004.

Ecclestone / Briatore Takeover

In August 2007, QPR were bought by Formula One tycoons Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore.

On 1 March 2010 Neil Warnock was appointed manager and in his first season took Rangers to the Championship title and promotion to the Premier league.
