The Riverside is a 35, 100 capacity arena which has been home to Middlesbrough FC since it opened in 1995.

The stadium was constructed to replace Ayresome Park, which Middlesbrough would have been unable to expand significantly due to its location in a residential area.

Having taken the decision to move, the Middlesbrough board was offered the Middlehaven site ajoining the River Tees for development. Construction began in late 1994 and was completed within just 32 weeks, for a modest GBP16 million.

The Riverside was the first stadium designed and built to comply with the Tayor Report. It was, at the time, the biggest new stadium to be built in England since World War II.
