Rooney: 'Yes! I would move to City'
by The Rumour Monger
Wayne Rooney has told his Man United team-mates that he would consider a move to Manchester City. The striker has already informed the club that he will not be signing an extension to the remaining 18 months of his current contract. And with his wife Colleen refusing to move abroad that leaves Rooney with just two options. Only City and Chelsea can afford the reported £230,000-a-week deal he is seeking. Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti yesterday suggested he would consider a move, but the Blues have recently signaled their intent to cut down on lavish signings, so the prospect of Rooney in a Manchester City shirt is a very real one. City manager Roberto Mancini is understood to be monitoring the situation, and sources at City would not rule out a move for the England striker. Adding pressure to United's situation is FIFA’s ‘Webster ruling’, which means Rooney could buy out the last year of his contract for as little as £5million in the summer. Real Madrid have also been linked with Rooney, but coach Jose Mourinho has ruled out a move, saying he believes Rooney will stay. There seems little prospect of that. Rooney is believed to be disillusioned with life at United, particular the quality of the club’s recent signings, and is keen for a move in the January transfer window. |
