Short Lived Transfers

Profiling some of the short lived transfers in English football history.

All fans are exited by new signings hope that they work out. Here are some that didn't.

Hameur Bouazza
Fulham to Sivasspor

The former Fulham winger signed for Sivasspor, made his debut in a 0-3 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, and then promptly asked to have his contract cancelled. The Turkish club obliged and Bouazza is now without a club.

Dietmar Hamann
Liverpool to Bolton

Sam Alladyce was left fuming as the German international pulled out of a deal to sign for Bolton. Within 24 hours of Big Sam completing what he called his "best bit of business yet", Hamman decided to move to Manchester City instead.

Ali Dia
Unattached to Southampton

A short lived transfer Graeme Souness probably wishes never happened at all. The Southampton manager signed Dia based on a recommendation he believed came from former AC Milan striker George Weah.

Turns out Weah had never heard of the player claiming to be his cousin. Dia made his Southampton debut as a sub in November 1996 and was so embarrassing that the manager was forced to take him off. He has not been heard from since.

Clive Allen
QPR to Arsenal

Allen played for just about every London club during his career. His time at Arsenal was limited to just three pre-season friendlies before he was swapped for Crystal Palace full-back Kenny Sansom (who, to be fair, did hang around for a bit).

Joey Beauchamp
Oxford to West Ham

Harry Redknapp signed Beauchamp for a then club record 1.2 million pounds, but the midfielder complained of home-sickness and was soon on his way back to Oxford after just 58 days at Upton Park.

David Unsworth
West Ham to Aston Villa

Unsworth joined Aston Villa from West Ham for 3 million pounds in 1998. Unfortunately, he forgot to consult Mrs. Unsworth who had her heart set on a move back north. Within a month of this short lived transfer, the player had moved to Everton, the club where he'd begun his career seven years earlier.

Mauricio Taricco
Tottenham Hotspur to West Ham

The Argentine defender moved from Spurs to West Ham in November 2004. However, just 27 minutes into his debut, he pulled a hamstring, ruling him out for at least eight weeks.

In a move which Hammers boss Alan Pardew described as one of the most honest things he'd seen in football, Taricco then offered to cancel his contract.

Marco Boogers
Sparta Rotterdam to West Ham

Harry Redknapp is known as an astute mover in the transfer market. This is one that went wrong. He signed the, comically named, Boogers from Sparta Rotterdam for 800,000 pounds in 1995, apparently on the basis of a video.

On his second appearance for the club Boogers was sent off for a challenge on Gary Neville and the Hammers boss decided to cut his losses and sell the striker on.

"He was a good player but a nutter", Redknapp explained. "They didn't show that on the video".
