Spurs and United fluff their opening lines
by The Rumor Monger
The Champions League is up and running, but both Spurs and Manchester United will be kicking themselves after dropping points in their opening fixtures. In the so-called 'Battle of Britain', United were expected to brush Rangers aside. But Sir Alex Ferguson put out a side more suited to the Carling Cup than the Champions League, and paid the price as a resilient defensive display by the Scottish champions saw them leave Old Trafford with a point, after a 0-0 draw. The result was made worse for United by a horrific ankle injury to Antonio Valencia which will keep him out for the rest of the season. Spurs meanwhile got off to a dream start in Bremen, racing into a 2-0 lead after just 18 minutes. The Germans though, fought back, and were level on 47 minutes, leaving Tottenham clinging on to leave the Weserstadion with a point.
