Stevenage FC were founded in 1976 following the demise of the town's former club, Stevenage Athletic.

In 1980, after playing in the local leagues, they changed their name to Stevenage Borough and joined the United Counties League, winning the title in their first season.

Stevenage joined the Isthmian League Division Two in 1984 and were once again an instant success, winning promotion at the first attempt.

Promotion to the Conference

Relegation followed in 1986, but the club bounced back with successive promotions, and in 1994 promotion to the Conference.

Conference Winners

In 1995/96, the club won the Conference title, but were denied promotion to the Football League as their Broadhall Way stadium did not meet League requirements.

In 2001/02 Stevenage reached the FA Trophy final, but lost 2-0 to Yeovil Town. In 2004-05 they reached the playoffs but lost out in the final to Carlisle United.

There was another FA Trophy final in 2006-07, and this time Boro prevailed, beating Kiddermister Harriers 3-2 at Wembley. And they won the trophy again in 2008-09, this time beating York City.

A League Club At Last

There had been another failure in the play-offs in between those two cup wins, but in 2009-10, Stevenage were Conference champions and secured promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history.

In 2010, the club announced that it would be reverting to its original name.

Another promotion followed a year later via the play-offs.
