49,946 v Manchester United
Division One, October 28th, 1957.

The City Ground is the 30,602 capacity home ground of Nottingham Forest, who have played there since 1898.

The club had previously played at the Town Ground (named after the Town Arms pub) and as Nottingham had recently been granted its charter as a city, the new ground was named to commemorate this.

The stadium is only three hundred yards away from Meadow Lane, home of Forest's local rivals Notts County, making the two grounds the closest in England.

The current stadium has four stands, the Main Stand, Brian Clough Stand, Bridgeford Stand and Trent End.

The Main Stand (capacity of 5,708) was rebuilt in 1965 after it was destroyed by fire during a First Division game against Leeds United. Sadly, many of the club’s records, trophies and memorabilia were lost in the fire.

The Brian Clough Stand (previously the Executive Stand) was built in 1980. The stand incorporates 36 executive boxes and a large dining area, and is named after Forest's legendary former manager.

More major development took part in 1992-93 with the rebuilding of the Bridgford Stand to a capacity of 7,710, with the lower tier of 5,131 allocated to away supporters.

The Stand also houses a management suite, which includes the public address systems, electronic scoreboard controls and the police matchday operation.

The Trent End was the most recent stand to be rebuilt and at a capacity of 7,338 took the ground’s capacity to 30,576.

In June 2007, Forest announced plans to leave the City Ground after more than 100 years. The plan is to move to a new purpose built 40, 000 capacity stadium in the south of the city. Return from the City Ground to Nottingham Forest
