Wenger charged by the FA
by The Rumor Monger
Arsene Wenger has been hit with an improper conduct charge after he appeared to push fourth official Martin Atkinson during Arsenal's clash with Sunderland on Saturday. Under the FA's new fast-track disciplinary system, Wenger can accept the charge and take the punishment of a one-game ban and an £8,000 fine. This would mean watching tonight's Carling Cup tie, with north London rivals Tottenham, from the stands. However, should he decide to challenge the charge, and fail, the penalty would increase to two games and a £12,000 fine. The second of those games would be the Premier League clash with Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge, on Sunday week - a game Wenger would surely not want to miss. |
