Football History

Yeovil Town Football Club was founded as Yeovil Casuals in 1895, changing their name to the current form in 1907.

Merger with Petters United

In 1914, after a merger with another local club, Petters United, a new club, Yeovil & Petters United was formed and entered the Western League (Division Two) and the Dorset & Wiltshire League.

Move to the Huish

The club moved into the Huish Ground in August 1920 and, after winning the Western League in 1922, they joined the Southern League in 1923.

In 1927, Yeovil applied for membership of the Football League but was rejected.

Giantkillers

In 1934-35, the club achieved the first of its many FA Cup giant-killings - beating Crystal Palace and neighbours Exeter City.

When professional football resumed after the war Yeovil & Petters United reverted to their original name, and under this name created a national sensation in 1949 when they defeated Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Between 1955 and 1973, Yeovil won the Southern League three times and in 1979 they joined the Alliance Premier League, forerunner of the Conference.

Conference Champions

Yeovil won the Conference championship by a record margin of 17 points in 2003 to gain promotion to the Football League.

They were champions of League Two (old Fourth Division) in 2005 and, in 2007, narrowly missed promotion to the second tier via the play-offs.
